Trying to conceive — or trying to understand your cycle better? Timing is everything: an egg survives just 12–24 hours after release, but sperm can wait up to 5 days, which creates a “fertile window” of about six days each cycle. Miss the window and even perfect health can’t help. Our free ovulation calculator estimates your ovulation day and the full fertile window from your last period and cycle length — the dates when conception is actually possible.
Ovulation Calculator
Estimate your ovulation day and fertile window.
How the Math Works
Ovulation happens about 14 days before your next period — the luteal phase (post-ovulation) is remarkably consistent, while the first phase varies with cycle length. So:
Ovulation day = LMP + (cycle length − 14) days
Fertile window = 5 days before ovulation through 1 day after
For a 28-day cycle, ovulation lands around day 14. For a 32-day cycle, day 18. For a 26-day cycle, day 12. This is why “day 14” advice fails women with longer or shorter cycles — personalisation matters.
How to Use the Ovulation Calculator
- Pick your last period’s first day (LMP) and enter your usual cycle length (21–35 days).
- Click Calculate — ovulation day and your fertile window appear.
- Couples trying to conceive usually time intimacy every 1–2 days across the whole window rather than one “perfect” day — less pressure, better odds.
Worked Example
Period started 1 June, cycle length 30 days. Ovulation = 1 June + (30 − 14) = 17 June. Fertile window = 12–18 June. That’s the week that counts.
Signs the Calculator Can’t See
- Cervical mucus turning clear, stretchy, and slippery (like egg white) in the 2–3 days before ovulation.
- A small rise in basal body temperature (~0.3°C) the morning after ovulation.
- Ovulation predictor kits (urine LH strips) flag the surge ~24–36 hours ahead.
Track these and your predictions get sharper every cycle.
Frequently Asked Questions
How accurate is an ovulation calculator?
Good for regular cycles (±1–2 days). With irregular cycles (common with PCOS — very common among Pakistani women), calculators drift; combine with LH strips and signs.
Can I get pregnant outside the fertile window?
Practically no — but cycle variability means the window is an estimate, so it’s not a reliable contraception method.
What if I have PCOS or irregular cycles?
This calculator gives a rough guide only. See a gynaecologist; ovulation tracking there uses follicle scans (follicular tracking), the definitive method, and treatment may help.
How long should we try before seeing a doctor?
If under 35: after 12 months of regular, well-timed trying. If 35+: after 6 months. Earlier if cycles are very irregular or absent.
Does stress delay ovulation?
Yes — illness, travel, weight change, and stress can shift ovulation by days. One off cycle is normal; tracking 3+ cycles shows your pattern.
