Ideal Weight Calculator

“Kitna weight theek hoga?” — it’s one of the most common questions at gyms, clinics, and family gatherings across Pakistan. Ideal weight isn’t about a celebrity look; it’s the weight range associated with the best long-term health for your height and build. Our free ideal weight calculator uses the Devine formula — the clinical standard doctors have used since the 1970s — and shows your ideal weight in kilograms along with the healthy range to aim for.

Ideal Weight Calculator

What Is the Devine Formula?

In 1974, Dr. B. J. Devine published a formula for estimating ideal body weight for drug dosing and health assessment. It starts from a base weight at 5 feet (152.4 cm) and adds 2.3 kg for every inch above it:

  • Men: 50 + 2.3 × (inches − 60)
  • Women: 45.5 + 2.3 × (inches − 60)
(Below 5 feet, the base weight is used.)

Other formulas you may hear of — Robinson, Miller, Hamwi — give slightly different answers, but Devine remains the most widely used in clinical practice. Think of it as a sensible midpoint, not a magic number: your frame size, muscle mass, and age all shift where your personal ideal sits.

How to Use

  1. Select your gender (base weights differ for men and women).
  2. Enter your height in centimetres.
  3. Click Calculate — your ideal weight in kg appears, plus a practical target range (±10%).
  4. Use it as a goalpost alongside your BMI and body fat percentage.

Worked Example

Ayesha is 162 cm tall — that’s about 63.8 inches. Inches above 60 = 3.8. Ideal weight = 45.5 + 2.3 × 3.8 = 45.5 + 8.7 = 54.2 kg. Her sensible target range: roughly 49–59 kg. If she currently weighs 68 kg, she knows her long-term goal — and she can get there safely with a calorie plan from our calorie deficit calculator.

Tips & Limitations

  • Athletes and manual workers with above-average muscle can healthily weigh 10–15% more than Devine suggests — muscle is dense.
  • Small-framed or older adults may feel best a touch below it.
  • “Ideal” here means health-associated, not aesthetic — it maps closely to the middle of the WHO healthy BMI band.
  • Combine with body fat percentage: ideal weight + healthy body fat = a complete target.

FAQs

Is ideal weight the same as healthy weight?

Almost. “Ideal” comes from the Devine point estimate; “healthy” is the wider band around it (roughly ±10%, matching WHO BMI 18.5–24.9). Both beat chasing a fashion-model number.

Why do men and women get different ideals?

Women physiologically carry a higher essential fat percentage and different bone density patterns, so clinical formulas use a lower base for women — about 45.5 vs 50 kg at 5 feet.

Which formula is most accurate — Devine, Robinson, Miller, or Hamwi?

They all land within a few kilograms of each other. Devine is the clinical default and the one used here; Miller tends to run slightly higher, Robinson slightly lower. None accounts for frame size, so treat the ±10% band as the real answer.

Should I aim for my ideal weight if I lift weights?

Probably 5–15% above it, depending on muscle mass — check your FFMI to see where you stand.

How fast can I reach my ideal weight safely?

About 0.25–0.5 kg per week. Our TDEE and calorie deficit calculators turn that into a daily eating plan.
