PTA Device Tax Calculator

Dubai ya abroad se phone laa rahe ho, ya imported handset khareedne ka soch rahe ho? Pakistan mein ghair-PTA-approved phone 60 din baad kisi bhi local SIM par band ho jata hai — aur registration ka sabse bara kharcha PTA/FBR tax hai. Since 1 July 2026, FBR restructured mobile device taxes completely under the FY 2026-27 framework: seven value bands, and separate treatment for Passport vs CNIC registration. Our free PTA tax calculator prices your exact phone (or any custom dollar value) under the new structure — Passport total, CNIC filer total, and the itemised breakdown — so there are no surprises at the airport or the PTA office.

How the New FY 2026-27 Tax Works

The old flat 17% model is gone. The new structure has four components, applied by your phone’s assessed dollar value band (≤$30, $31–100, $101–200, $201–350, $351–500, $501–700, >$700):

  1. Customs duty: a fixed Rs 250 in every band.
  2. Regulatory duty: rises by band — from Rs 240 in the lowest band to Rs 17,600 at the top.
  3. Handset levy: Rs 100 in the cheapest bands, jumping sharply above $200 (Rs 1,800) and again above $700 (Rs 16,000).
  4. Sales tax: 18% up to a $500 value, then 25% above $500 — calculated not just on the phone’s value but on value + customs + regulatory duty.
  5. Income tax applies on the CNIC route only — and filers pay half of what non-filers pay in each band (from Rs 100 in the lowest band to Rs 11,500 filer / Rs 23,000 non-filer at the top).

Passport total = customs + regulatory duty + levy + sales tax. CNIC total = passport total + income tax.

Passport vs CNIC — Which Route?

  • Passport (DIRBS temporary/permanent via passport): cheaper — no income tax component. Suited to travellers and overseas Pakistanis registering on their travel document.
  • CNIC: includes income tax — filers pay half the non-filer amount, one more reason to be on the Active Taxpayer List.
  • Both routes register the IMEI with PTA’s DIRBS system so the phone works permanently on Pakistani networks.

How to Use

  1. Pick your phone model from the dropdown (values per FBR’s valuation ruling) — or choose Custom USD and enter any dollar value.
  2. Set the dollar rate if needed (default Rs 280).
  3. Toggle Passport/CNIC and filer/non-filer — the itemised breakdown updates instantly.
  4. Compare both routes side by side before you register.

Key Facts

  • DIRBS taxes the FBR-assessed customs value of your phone model, not the price you paid — a discounted buy doesn’t mean discounted tax.
  • The $500 sales-tax jump and the $700 levy jump are real cliff edges: two similar-value phones can carry very different taxes.
  • Registering late or using an unapproved phone risks permanent blocking on local SIMs after the grace period.

FAQs

Why does sales tax jump at $500?

Under the FY 2026-27 structure, the sales-tax rate steps from 18% to 25% once the assessed value crosses $500 — mid-range premiums feel it most.

Why does the levy double above $700?

The handset levy is the luxury component of the new framework — flagships pay disproportionately more by design.

Is income tax really CNIC-only?

Yes under the current structure. Passport registrations skip the income-tax component entirely, which is why they’re cheaper.

Is Passport registration always cheaper?

For the same phone, yes — by exactly the income-tax amount. But eligibility rules apply; not everyone can register every phone on a passport.

Which value does DIRBS use — my purchase price or FBR’s?

FBR’s official valuation ruling for your model. Our dropdown uses those assessed values for the listed models.
