Zakat Calculator

Official 1446-47 AH nisab; changes every year — verify before Ramadan.

Zakat is the third pillar of Islam — 2.5% of qualifying wealth held for a full lunar year, paid to the eligible categories (masarif) named in the Quran. But “qualifying wealth” trips people up: cash, bank balances, gold, silver, and trade goods count; your home, car, and personal belongings don’t. Our free zakat calculator totals your zakatable assets, applies the 2.5% rate, and gives your payable zakat — with a scholar-consultation note for complex cases.

What Counts — The Zakatable Base

  • Cash and bank balances (all accounts, including savings)
  • Gold and silver (at current market value; some scholars count gold for personal use — the calculator lets you include or exclude per your school of thought)
  • Trade goods and business inventory (wholesale value)
  • Receivables likely to be repaid; not debts you owe (subtract those)
  • Not zakatable: your residence, personal car, furniture, tools of trade you use yourself

Nisab (the minimum threshold): the value of 52.5 tola of silver or 7.5 tola of gold (opinions differ; most Pakistani scholars use the silver nisab, which is lower — the calculator defaults to the officially notified nisab of Rs 503,529 for zakat year 1446-47 AH, announced February 2026; update it when the government notifies a new figure each year). Wealth held for one lunar (Hijri) year above nisab is zakatable at 2.5%.

How to Use

  1. Enter cash, bank balances, gold/silver value, and business assets.
  2. Subtract loans you owe.
  3. Click Calculate — your zakatable total and 2.5% zakat appear.
  4. Pay to any of the eight Quranic categories (poor, needy, zakat workers, those in debt, etc.) before your zakat year completes.

Worked Example

Cash + banks Rs 500,000; gold worth Rs 400,000; business stock Rs 300,000; loans owed Rs 200,000. Zakatable = 1,200,000 − 200,000 = Rs 1,000,000. Zakat = 2.5% × 1,000,000 = Rs 25,000.

Notes

  • Scholars differ on gold-for-personal-use, pensions, and shares — our calculator covers the standard case; ask your mufti for edge cases.
  • Pay zakat during Ramadan or anytime your lunar year completes — both are valid.
  • Record your calculation yearly; wealth grows, and so does the number.

FAQs

What is the zakat rate?

2.5% on zakatable wealth held for one lunar year above nisab.

What is nisab in rupees?

It floats with gold/silver prices: silver nisab (52.5 tola) is the lower, commonly used threshold in Pakistan; gold nisab (7.5 tola) is much higher. The calculator defaults to the officially notified Rs 503,529 for zakat year 1446-47 AH (announced February 2026; the year before it was Rs 179,689 — it is re-notified every year with silver prices). You can enter a different value if you follow the gold nisab or your scholar’s figure.

Is zakat due on my house or car?

No — personal-use assets (residence, car, furniture) aren’t zakatable. Rental property’s rental income and its value rules differ — ask a scholar.

Do I pay zakat on loans people owe me?

Yes if repayment is expected (many pay when received); doubtful debts are excluded. Subtract debts you owe from your total.

Bank interest — is it part of zakat?

Interest itself isn’t yours to benefit from — scholars say dispose of it in charity (not counted as zakat). Your principal balances are zakatable. Islamic banking options avoid the question entirely.
